About the Centre:
ALC is a learning centre to teach Arabic to non-native speakers (online) in the Sultanate of Oman. It offers many interactive activities to enrich scientific and practical content to help participants learn the Arabic language, both spoken and written. Specialist teachers will utilize their skill, expertise and knowledge to transfer their experiences to others.
Target groups:
- Visiting foreign students who want to become fluent in Arabic language, literature and culture.
- Researchers and academics interested in the Arabic language
- Those wishing to learn Arabic and communicate in it around the world.
- Foreign communities residing in the Sultanate.
- Diplomatic staff and foreign investors.
- Employees of foreign companies operating in the Sultanate.
- Foreign employees of Omani private and governmental companies.
Duration of the course:
The course will be carried out according to a mechanism and timetable in which the teaching hours are 30 hours per semester (Feb. March & April), 3 hours per week distributed over 3 days. Students will be given exercises and homework.

General objectives of the course:
(1) The student may learn and practice the Arabic language in the way it is spoken by its people, or in a manner close to that. Depending on the needs of the student this may be Gulf Arabic, Omani Arabic or Classical Arabic
(2) The student knows the characteristics of the Arabic language and what distinguishes it from other languages in terms of sounds, vocabulary, structure, and concepts.
(3) The student will understand the Arab culture and become familiar with the characteristics of the Arab person, the environment in which he lives and the society with which he deals.
General communicative goals for studying Arabic at the centre:
(1) Listening to and understanding Arabic speakers.
(2) Accuracy of reading.
(3) Writing with correct spelling and expressing ideas by using the accurate rules of the language.
(4) Using Arabic in the various ways of life and interacting with Arabic speakers and their culture.
Placement Tests:
A placement test will be sent to those wishing to register in the three levels: beginners, intermediate and advance.
